Devotions

We continue looking at the Holy Spirit today by looking at the fact that he teaches us to hide in plain sight. This does not mean that we do or say nothing, actually, it is the exact opposite. We are to be very visible and God helps us to always strive to do that better! Instead, he teaches us to be hidden in Christ so that we are never promoting ourselves but we are always promoting Christ so that he alone receives all of the glory in everything. Thank you for sharing some of your time with me and for the privilege of sharing God’s Word with you!

In today’s devotion, we continue our look at the Holy Spirit’s Work, specifically, one way that he changes our hearts through the power of God’s Word. We will see how he causes us to view others, no matter how different, as fellow heirs of the same promise and how he unifies us in Christ. Please share some of your time with me and thank you for the privilege of sharing God’s Word with you!

What do you know? In all honesty, it is far less than we would like to think. Yet as we continue to look at the Holy Spirit it is important to know he lives in us by faith. It is important to know what the Spirit knows about you and about your neighbor and about all humanity. It is important to know what God knows about you as he sent his Son to the cross for all people. May we embrace the fact that we have much to learn and love the opportunities we have to go to our God who knows the truth. Thank you so much for the privilege of sharing God’s Word with you!

Today, we begin a look at the work of the Holy Spirit. We begin this look by focusing on sorrow over sin. This is something the Holy Spirit works in our hearts. But what does it look like and how does it show itself? To answer these questions we will look to the very place in which the Holy Spirit works – the Word of God. Please share some of your time with me as we look at this important topic. Thank you so much!

To have a successful future, many say it is important to stay focused on what you want. While that may be helpful advice, it isn’t foolproof advice. Today, we finish up our look at Jesus’ sermon on the mount and Jesus tells us how to stay confident about our future and the outcome of it no matter what. He does this by telling us it is important how we start and what we start on. Your future is important, so please, share some of your time with me as we listen to Jesus as he speaks with authority on the subject of our futures! Thank you so much for the privilege of sharing God’s Word with you!

It is flooding the news. Reactions are everywhere on both sides of the story. A social injustice has taken place. People are obviously hurting and tempers are flaring. Love is the obvious answer. Love for people regardless of race. But is the response to injustice up to us? Today, please press the pause button with me and may we let the words of God in Psalm 37 fill our hearts and minds. Thank you.

Do unto others…we talk about the “Golden Rule” and we teach it to our children. But how well do we live it? Sometimes it might be more like “Do unto others as long as they think the same way as me.” It is an easy rule to learn but a hard rule to master. Keeping all this in mind, please join me as we go to God’s Word and hear him teach us about the part he plays in this process. Thank you so much for your time!

Judge Not! It is a phrase used often among us. Sometimes it is used to basically say “mind your own business”! Sometimes it is used because we don’t want to offend others. Sometimes it is used because we don’t want to create the idea in someone else’s mind that we are better than others. But what does the Bible really say about judging? Please, share some of your time with me as we hear what God has to tell us about judging. Thank you!

Worry is a popular action and emotion. When we feel helpless it is something that we can talk about and do. But is it a good idea? Better yet, is it helpful for our faith? Please join me in God’s Word as we hear him reassure us why we don’t have to worry about a thing! Thank you!

We looked at the Lord’s Prayer not to long ago, but we didn’t touch on our attitude as much as the words themselves. Today, as we go to God’s Word we hear God address our attitude going into and during our prayers. May we all be blessed with a heart that yearns to talk with our God and finds comfort in knowing great joy in he is the only one who needs to hear! Thank you for a few minutes of your time as well as the opportunity to share God’s Word with you!

Giving to the needy is important and good. Just about everyone knows that. But have you ever thought about how we should give to the needy? That is something that we might not think about as much and it is something we could be doing with improper motivation. Please share some of your time with me as we go to God’s Word and hear what God has to say about this topic. Thank you so much for the privilege to share God’s Word with you!

How do I love those who do not only give me a reason not to but, really, give me a reason to hate them? God demands to much from me! You are right, in fact God demands perfection from me and from you. Is that fair? Is that loving? Please share a few minutes of your day with me as we go to God’s Word to look at this topic. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share God’s Word with you!

Payback. Right your wrongs. These are the first responses for us when we are wronged. Additionally, we can easily and quickly look down on those who seem to just be looking for handouts and we can quickly and easily turn some away when we have made that determination. That is why I encourage you to join me in God’s Word and see how God challenges those thoughts as he guides us in Christian living. Thank you for the privilege of sharing God’s Word with you!

How important are our words? How do they reflect on God? How do they reflect on us? How are we to talk and how are we to make promises in an uncertain climate? Today, we go to God’s Word and hear him talk to us about these very things. Please spare a few minutes of your day and join me. Thank you so much for this privilege!

Divorces are popular today, but that is nothing new. They were an item of discussion in Jesus’ time as well. But Jesus’ view on them was the same then as it is today. He takes the marriage promise seriously. Please, share some time with me as we go to God’s Word and see why we should take that promise just as seriously. Thank you so much!

Murder is serious. That is a fact we all know. Because of this, I am sure few of us feel as though we may have little to nothing to fear when it comes to the 5th Commandment. But here in Matthew 5, God turns those thoughts upside down. Please share some of your time with me as we go to God’s Word and have our hearts convicted but also lifted back up by our God. Thank you for the opportunity to share God’s Word with you!

Do not commit adultery. Like the 5th commandment, we want to sooth our conscience. We want to play the compare game and see others have messed up more and far worse than we. But again, God lets us know that all have sinned. Please share some of your time with me and may we be cut to the heart and healed by the word of God. Thank you so much!

How much do we need to do to make God happy? Can I or should I be comparing myself to others? What is it about Jesus’ life that has anything to do with my own? Please share a few minutes of your day with me as we go to God’s Word and look at these questions. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share God’s Word with you!

Today Jesus talks to us about who we are. You are salt. You are light. If you are a Christian, then it is that simple, it is part of our existence. The times we currently find ourselves in be seen as a challenge to that, OR they can simply make it that much more important. Please, share some of your time with me as we go to God’s Word and may the later be our response. Thank you so much!

What makes a person blessed? The things that we might think at first are probably not on the list that Jesus makes. But why and how do we know if a person is blessed or not? Please spare a few minutes and join me in God’s Word as we sit at Jesus’ feet and listen to what he has to say. Thank you!

Heaven, it sounds so wonderful. But how do I know I can get in? Have I been good enough? Will I say the right things? How can I know that this is my future reality? Today, as we go to God’s Word, we address these questions as we hear the answer from Jesus himself in his Word. Thank you so much for to the opportunity to share God’s Word with you!

What will I look like in heaven? Will I have the body I always dreamed of? Will I have my halo or wings? Will I be ghost-like? Does God even tell me? Please take some time to go to God’s Word with me and may we hear that God thinks enough of this question to address it and what we can be confident of concerning our appearance in Heaven. Thank you so much!

In heaven, we will see many many people. Some faces will be familiar from our time on earth and some will be new faces. But there will be one face that will be the highlight for all eternity! Please share some of your time with me as we go to God’s Word and hear about who that is and why that will be so special. Thank you so much!

Often we describe something based on what was going on, based on what was there, the smells, the feelings, the sights and etc. The Bible often describes heaven based on what WON’T be there. Please share a few minutes of your time with me as we hear and talk more about how God describes heaven to you and me. Thank you so much for giving me the privilege of sharing God’s Word with you!

There are few things that get a crowd of people to raise their voices together in triumph but they are always special moments. Today we look at a description of the greatest sound of Triumph there will ever be, namely the day we see in full all that Jesus has done for us with our own eyes in heaven. Please join me as we go to God’s Word and hear more about heaven. Thank you!

Can you imagine only joy? It is hard to comprehend but it is wonderful to hear about and God wants you to know about it. In today’s devotion we continue our look at heaven and it is a beautiful look! Please take a few moments of your day to listen to what God has to tell us about how wonderful heaven will be for you and me! Thank you!

Today we begin a new series where we look at God’s descriptions of heaven in the Bible. We start with the account of Genesis. While it is obviously not a description of Heaven, it is still a description of what God makes, namely, it is very good. When it comes to a perfect God, it does not get any better than that. Rest assured, heaven is going to exceed expectations!

This devotion concludes our look at plagues in the Bible. It reminds us that the only times God will use plagues for judgement is on those who do not believe, those who rely on themselves. As we draw closer to the end, a believer only gets more excited, an unbeliever only gets more afraid and frantic. May our excitement always be shown in telling others about the hope that we have. Thank you so much for sharing some of your time with me and giving me the privilege of sharing God’s Word with you!

Today we go to Ezekiel and see what God allowed during the time that Jerusalem was destroyed and how it applies to you and me. While God’s ways are not ours and his reasons are often above our understanding, he still wants us to know about him and so he shares many things with us. Please share some of your time with me as we continue our look at plagues and what they show us about God. Thank you.

Why do so many of the plagues in the Bible take place in the Old Testament? What is the big difference between back then vs. now? Is there a difference? Is God punishing people today like he did back then? Please share a few minutes of your day with me as we briefly look at this topic in today’s devotion. Thank you for the opportunity to share God’s Word with you!

What do biblical plagues tell us about God’s power, his patience, or the priority he should have in our life? Can we learn anything from them and apply it to our situation today? Please take a few minutes to join me for a devotion as we contemplate these questions from God’s Word. Thank you so much for the opportunity to share God’s Word with you!

Looking at plagues in the Bible can teach us much about God but it can also teach us much about how people react to God’s power. Please share a little of your time with me as we continue our look at plagues in the Bible and how they can lead us to appreciate and share our God more. Thank you so much!

What if a cure for death was discovered? What if the pain of death was removed? There is nothing that would be more impactful to all people than that news! Today’s devotion begins a look at Biblical plagues. But we start with one that doesn’t really seem like a plague. It isn’t surprising. It is more expected and just depressing. But as we look at this topic, we hear surprising news! Please share a few minutes of your time with me as we go to God’s Word and hear the truth on this plague of death. Thank you!
